JNU admin urges students, teachers to shun protest

NEW DELHI: Jawaharlal Nehru University administration made it clear that teachers' demand to reinstate the faculty members, who were dismissed from their administrative post as dean or chairpersons, are completely unreasonable and tantamount to going against JNU rules and regulations.

Clarifying in a statement, JNU administration said that only those decisions would be implemented that are as per the rules of the university and based on the approval of the statutory bodies of the university.

“Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers' Association (JNUTA) has manifestly violated the university rules by organising protests, demonstrations and marches in the prohibited areas of the university, despite reminders sent by the administration. This is an inexcusable example of teachers misleading the students who look up to teachers for inspiration,” said the statement.

The statement further said that the protests and marches organised by JNU Student Union (JNUSU) and JNUTA, lockdown of some schools and preventing the ingress and egress of other students, teachers and the staff that have raised the “anxiety” level of law abiding JNU Community members.

JNU administration also urged the JNUTA and JNUSU office bearers to refrain from all those activities that have vitiated the academic atmosphere of the university and prevented normal functioning of various offices.
