Kingpin of inter-state drug supply racket nabbed in Bareilly

NEW DELHI: A team of Special Cell has arrested a notorious inter-state drug trafficker, for whose arrested Delhi Police had announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh.

Police said on Monday that 30-year-old Riyaz Khan, a resident of Padhera village in Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh, was arrested from Atish Bhaijaan Mohalla in the district’s Katra area.

On March 24, cops received a tip-off that Khan was hiding in his brother’s house in of Atish Bhaijaan Mohalla and arrested him from there.

One kg of fine quality heroin worth over Rs 4 crores in the internatio­nal market was Accused Riyaz Khan recovered from the spot, along with many mobile phones and SIM cards. Khan was involved in supply of drugs for the last six years.

“He has done Btech from Allahabad University and postgradua­tion from Bareilly and has agricultur­al land in his village.

“After finishing studies, he could not find any job and was lured by Farid, a resident of his village, into this illegal trade for easy money,” said Deputy Commission­er of Police (Special Cell) PS Kushwaah.

The senior officer added that Khan has been arrested in a case filed under sections 21 and 29 NDPS Act.

Khan worked with Farid for sometime, but gradually developed his own network of drug trafficker­s. At the time of his arrest, he used to procure heroin from Farid and supplied it to his contacts in UP and Delhi through carriers.

He further disclosed that he had supplied heroin to Savej, Ashique Ali and Anwar, who had already been arrested.
