GANG HELD FOR CHEATING IN SSC
Accused had contacts with over 10 examination centres across Delhi, Jaipur
A gang of four persons, which started operating in 2011 and helped SSC candidates in cheating during examinations was arrested from north Delhi’s Timarpur area on Tuesday.
Police said the accused were identified as Ajay, Sonu, Gaurav and Paramjeet, adding that Rs 5.18 lakh, three laptops, 10 mobile phones and other electronic devices were recovered from the accused.
The gang used to find loopholes in the online examination system and helped candidates cheat in the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) online exam, by using remote access tool softwares, like Team Viewer.
However, their luck ran out when the Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh Police, in a joint operation with Delhi Police, arrested them.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Uttar Pradesh STF) Brijesh Singh told Millennium Post that during investigation, they found that the accused had contacts with more than 10 examination centres across Delhi and Jaipur.
“We found that most of them belonged to the accused and they used to help candidates in cheating,” said Singh.
Police sources claimed that more than 100 such cheatings were committed by the accused persons.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Jatin Narwal stated that a raid was conducted in a flat situated in Gandhi Vihar, Timarpur, where the accused were found working on laptops and phones.
“It was found that they were assisting candidates through remote access application Team Viewer. A total cash of Rs 5.18 lakh collected from candidates was also recovered from the spot,” said the DCP.
Police further claimed that the cheating racket was being run in a very organised manner.
It was revealed that the prospective candidates were lured and amount to the tune of Rs 5-10 lakh was being charged from each of them.
The gang used to tie up these candidates with their examination centers.
“This gang is alleged to have a network of examination centres and computer labs across various cities. These labs are outsourced by the SSC for conducting the examination. Harpal and other accused were also running various labs in different parts of the city, which are further hired by the outsourced labs for conducting the examinations,” police said.
The accused came from good educational background as Paramjeet Singh is BE in computers from PDM college Bahadurgarh, Haryana, whereas Ajay Kumar is an MA in Hindi.
The other accused, identified as Gaurav Nayyar, has completed his Bachelor in Computer Application.
