IISC TOPS HRD MINISTRY RANKING
NEW DELHI: It's for the third time in a row that the Indian Institute of Science (IISC) in Bengaluru has been adjudged as best institution in the country by the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry's national ranking framework (NIRF).
In another milestone, Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has made a hat-trick in NIRF rankings by securing a top slot in the category of engineering institutes in the country. In the category of management institutions, Indian Institute of Management-ahmedabad (IIM-A) has been adjudged as the best institution.
In the college category, Miranda House of Delhi University stands at the top in the NIRF ranking, while All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi is at top in medical institutions category and Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur has been adjudged as number one institution under architecture category.
According to NIRF ranking, Nlsiu-bengaluru is the best law school in the country.
In the overall ranking, Iit-madras is at second position followed by Iit-bombay, Iit-delhi, Iit-kharagpur, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Iit-kanpur, Iit-roorkee, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and Anna University, which is ranked as 10th position.
Delhi University, one of the most-sought-after varsity, has been ranked at 14, while IITGuwahati has secured 12th rank and Aligarh Muslim University is at 17th position in the overall category. Jamila Milia Islamia, New Delhi is ranked at 19 position in the domestic ranking, while Vellore Institute of Technology is ranked at 24 position and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore is at 15 position in the NIRF ranking.
In the university category, IIS, Bangaluru is ranked at top followed by JNU, BHU, Anna University, University of Hyderabad, Jadavpur University, University of Delhi, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Savitribai Phule Pune University and AMU.
In engineering category, Iit-madras is at the top followed by Iit-bombay, Iit-delhi, Iit-kharag- pur, Iit-kanpur, Iit-roorkee, Iit-guwahati, Anna University, Iit-hyderabad and Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai.
Under the college category, Miranda House has topped the list followed by St Stephen's College, Bishop Heber College, Hindu College, Presidency College, Loyola College, Shri Ram College of Commerce, Lady Shri Ram College of Women, Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira and Madras Christian College.
While announcing the India Rankings 2018, Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar said, “It would be mandatory for public institutes to participate in the ranking framework from next year. Those public institutions which will not take part in it will face fund cut.”
Speaking on the occasion, MOS HRD Satyapal Singh said, “Prior to setting of NIRF in 2015, there were no authentic ranking of institutions. All institution were making their own claims of achievements. The NIRF has a set of parameters and institutions are being adjudged on their performances.”
Singh also stressed on developing holistic campus instead of smart campuses and called upon devising parameters for developing holistic campuses.
According to HRD officials, about 4,500 institutes had submitted their details for ranking by NIRF for the year 2018, while in the previous year the participation number was about 3,000.
It's for the first time that the HRD Ministry has ranked medical, law and architecture institutes in the country. In total, the ranking for nine categories was announced.
