DRUGS WORTH RS 125 CR SEIZED
NEW DELHI: The Special Cell of Delhi Police busted an international drug racket which had its tentacles spread across Europe and middle East. The gang used Afganistan, India, Pakistan and Nigeria as transit points. The four arrested men are identified as Jehangir, a resident of Jammu and kashmir, Gurbachan Singh, a Tilak Nagar resident in Delhi, Mumtaz, an Afghan national and Nnadi K Iheanyi, a Nigerian national. The gang used to pack heroin into capsules and then those capsule are somehow inserted into the stomach and smuggled abroad. Nnadi was previously arrested by NCB, Delhi in 2017 and convicted for 7 years.
From their possession, 29-kg of fine quality heroin has been recovered, whose market value is Rs 125 crore. With these arrests, the Special Cell has busted the entire network of international narcosyndicate originating from Afghanistan and terminating in Europe. The Nigerian smugglers used Pakistan, J&K and Delhi as transit points. A case under section 21/29 NDPS Act was registered with Special Cell.
On March 26, acting upon a secret information, Jehangir was apprehended from Paschim Vihar and 11-kg of fine quality of heroin was recovered from his possession. A case was registered and accused Jehangir Ahmad Bhat was arrested. During his interrogation, he disclosed that the recovered heroin was given by one Kashmiri to be delivered to one Gurbachan in Delhi.
On 29 March, accused Gurbachan Singh was apprehended from Vikas Puri and one kg of heroin was recovered from his possession. With his arrest, the modus operandi of the syndicate was unearthed. The consinement was to be smuggled out of India to Europe and other parts of the globe. “Entire nexus was unearthed with the arrest of Mumtaj, an Afghan national, on March 31. He revealed that he received directions from Pakistan and Afghanistan to receive heroin in India and to deliver the same to some specific persons,” said PS Kushwaah, DCP Special Cell. Later on April 6, receiver of heroin Nnadi, a Nigerian citizen, was arrested from Najafgarh Road and another one kg of heroin was recovered from his possession.
