GURUGRAM: Saturday proved to be yet another disastrous day for slum dwellers in Gurugram, as a cylinder blast gutted 150 shanties. Not only did the mishap leave hundreds of people homeless, it also incinerated the belongings and identity papers of many.

The incident comes weeks after a fire incident at Tigra, which also claimed a life.

Worried over the issue of repetition of such incidents, the public authorities have served strict warnings to the land owners.

The vacant area of village landlords is used for setting up of shanties and Gurugram authorities have also begun taking stringent against illegal encroachments in public areas.

Sprouting of slums have become a major challenge in Gurugram. This is not for the first time when such tragedies have occurred in Gurugram.

Earlier too, there have been massive infernos reported from slums of Sikanderpur and Sector-10. In the case of Sikanderpur, the tragedy occurred twice in quick succession. A six-yearold boy lost his life.

With growth in population, the number of slums in Gurugram has also risen over the years.

Vacant areas and forest areas of Aravallis are being used for setting up shanties. The problem is also reported from areas of old city. The public authorities for long have been making claims to have provided better facilities to the people in these areas. NEW DELHI: A 45-year-old man was stabbed to death at his residence in east Delhi’s Pandav Nagar area on Sunday evening.

Police said they have reasons to believe that the victim’s son-in-law is the prime suspect.

Cops learnt that the suspect had an serious argument with his wife, soon after which her father was reported dead. The deceased man was identified as Prabhu Dayal.

Police said that Neeraj had got married to Dayal’s daughter in December 2016.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Pankaj Singh on Sunday said that as soon as the murder was reported, Neeraj fled the area. He added that police teams have been formed several teams to nab the accused.

The incident was reported on Sunday around 4 pm, after a relative of the deceased made the a call to the police, immediately after he found Dayal’s lying in the pool of blood.

A police team rushed to the spot and took the victim to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

Police further claimed that during investigation, it came to light that of late, Neeraj and his wife were having domestic trouble, which led them to have regular arguments.

Recently, Neeraj’s wife had left him and went to her parents’ house.

The suspect had been asking her to return home, but she refused, saying that they would end up fighting again and thus she did not want to come back with him.

Sources claimed that Neeraj killed Dayal, intending to teach his wife and in-laws a lesson.

However, the DCP refused to comment, stating that things will become clear after the suspect is nabbed. GURUGRAM: Residents of Gurugram’s Silokhera village on Sunday held a protest over the lack of civic facilities in their areas and submitted a memorandum to District Commissioner.

The agitation has made headlines as Silokhera village is where the state headquarters of Bharatiya Janata Party is being set up, over a 12 acre area of prime land.

While villagers have given their consent for setting up of the BJP office, they have stated that the ruling party must also ensure holistic development in the area.

Earlier, the villagers had registered their protest over the state party headquarters coming up in the area, but over time, relented to the proposed development.

Miffed over the approach of public agencies, such as Haryana Urban Development Authoirity and Municipal Corporation of Gurugram, residents of Silokhera have repeatedly held panchayats and discussed their future course of action. The village elders have stated categorically that they will not allow private developers to use the 12 acre land.

Villagers have also asked the public agencies for development of pond, community centre and a temple at the site, as was promised to them.

Silokhera is located along NH-8, and many condominium societies and commercial complexes having come up in the village and its nearby areas.
