Jewar airport to cater to 60 lakh passengers by 2022-23
After the green signal by the Central Government, the work for the much awaited second International airport in the Delhi NCR region will commence by the end of 2018. After the in-principle approval, the Uttar Pradesh Aviation Department is working on the bid process for the International Greenfield Airport construction.
Apart from the socio-economic benefits in the NCR region, the airport is expected to decongest Delhi airport, which is soon expected to reach capacity. Last year, Delhi airport handled 57.7 million passengers, a 10 percent growth from five years ago.
As per detailed report by the Pricewaterhouse Coopers on feasibility and sustainability of the airport, the international airport will be able to cater to six lakh passengers by 2022-23.
The benefits of the second international airport for the capital are like Jewar Airport will be able to handle 6 lakh passengers annually by 202223, Jewar Airport can handle 10 million passengers annually by 2029-30, 88 percent of Jewar airport traffic will be domestic, 15 percent will be international, Jewar Airport will be able to connect small cities to Delhi under UDAN, UP districts, Agra, Gautam Budh Nagar will be main contributors to Jewar airport.
Jewar Airport also can serve 8 domestic & 6 international destinations by 2022-23 and Jewar Airport can serve 37 domestic and 31 international destinations by 2050.
