Jewar airport to cater to 60 lakh passengers by 2022-23

After the green signal by the Central Government, the work for the much awaited second Internatio­nal airport in the Delhi NCR region will commence by the end of 2018. After the in-principle approval, the Uttar Pradesh Aviation Department is working on the bid process for the Internatio­nal Greenfield Airport constructi­on.

Apart from the socio-economic benefits in the NCR region, the airport is expected to decongest Delhi airport, which is soon expected to reach capacity. Last year, Delhi airport handled 57.7 million passengers, a 10 percent growth from five years ago.

As per detailed report by the Pricewater­house Coopers on feasibilit­y and sustainabi­lity of the airport, the internatio­nal airport will be able to cater to six lakh passengers by 2022-23.

The benefits of the second internatio­nal airport for the capital are like Jewar Airport will be able to handle 6 lakh passengers annually by 202223, Jewar Airport can handle 10 million passengers annually by 2029-30, 88 percent of Jewar airport traffic will be domestic, 15 percent will be internatio­nal, Jewar Airport will be able to connect small cities to Delhi under UDAN, UP districts, Agra, Gautam Budh Nagar will be main contributo­rs to Jewar airport.

Jewar Airport also can serve 8 domestic & 6 internatio­nal destinatio­ns by 2022-23 and Jewar Airport can serve 37 domestic and 31 internatio­nal destinatio­ns by 2050.
