The two-day program will be organised on May 1 and 2

NEW DELHI: In a novel initiative, the Education Department of Delhi government will arrange a grand career counselling session exclusively for students of Class X and Class XII of Delhi government schools.

Nearly 100 stalls of various industry representatives will come to talk to and explain career avenues to students.

In a bid to involve the parents in this sessions, the Delhi government have also ensured that students should be accompanied by their parents.

The two-day program will be organised on May 1 and 2, and will be called ‘Career Conclave’.

“Nearly 1,100 government schools will be present in this meet and there will be one lakh students, along with their parents,” said a senior official.

The official added that Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and other senior officials found that the government school students lack in career objectives, as they come from a very different family environment.

“Through this conclavem our target is to give them (students) a picture of what all can happen to them, what are the opportunities, what are the requirements. We want to tell them why they should study,” explained the official.

“Big corporate houses from different fields will come. There will also be people from government jobs, police, air force and others,” said the official.

The students and their parent can visit the stalls and talk to experts, who will explain the needful.

“This is the first time any government has made some initiative for government school students. Private school students often get such opportunities and get guidance from their parents, but government school students do not get such support,” said the official.

The schools have also urged parents to attend the conclave, so that they can interact directly with the experts and know the kind of opportunity their children have.

“Our government has always given priority in interaction with the parent as it helps to build better study environment for the students. Also, we have seen after PTMS that parents encourage the students to study more,” said the official.

Since coming to power in Delhi in 2015, the Aam Aadmi Party-led government has given education priority.

This year, the government allocated nearly 26 per cent of its Budget for education, which is highest among all the states in India.

According to several sources, the main pillar behind the success of all these initiatives was Atishi Marlena, the adviser to Sisodia – the Education Minister of Delhi.

Marlena, as well as eight others advisers to the Delhi government, were removed by the Union Home Ministry due to some procedural problem earlier this month.
