Over 200 arrested in 3 yrs for crimes against elderly
NEW DELHI: Senior citizens are the most vulnerable section of society as they can become an easy target for criminals. More than 200 persons have been arrested on different charges for crime against senior citizens in three years.
Delhi Police data accessed by Millennium Post stated that in 2016, around 123 persons were nabbed for their involvement in different crimes against senior citizens.
As many as 36 persons were arrested for murder whereas 87 persons were arrested for robbery.
Last year, 134 persons were arrested for their involvement in crime against senior citizens. Fifty-two persons were arrested for murder whereas 80 persons were arrested for robbery. Two persons were arrested for rape.
Data for this year 2018 till April 15, claimed that Delhi Police has arrested 17 persons involved in different types of crime against senior citizens.
“Two persons were arrested for murder whereas 15 persons were nabbed for robbery,” stated the police data.
Around 18 cases have been reported this year including three murder and fourteen robberies. Police have claimed that they have solved seven cases.
According to Delhi Police data, in the year 2016 around 110 cases related to crime against senior citizens were reported in the city which included 19 cases of murder and 91 cases of robbery. In the year 2017, around 91 cases were reported in which Delhi Police claimed to have solved 64 criminal cases which include 21 cases of murder whereas three cases of attempt to murder and 40 cases of the robbery were worked out. Three rape cases were also solved.
Recently, two murders of senior citizens shocked the national Capital. On April 20, a 75-year-old woman was killed in South West Delhi’s Najafgarh area. Police claimed that they have found the entry in the house friendly. In the initial investigation, police have found the case to be a robbery attempt but they are probing the case from all angles.
On 17 April, a 78-year-old man was murdered in her residence in west Delhi’s Rajouri Garden area. During investigation, the police team found that the entry of the accused was friendly and a few household articles and almirahs were found to be touched. Police claimed that they have started their investigation.
