"Based on a complaint, victim's husband, Sattan, was arrested by the police and brought to police station on Sunday night. The woman, on Monday morning, came to the police station and started arguing with police saying that her husband is innocent but when police told her that the stolen mobile phone and other valuables have also been recovered from her husband, she went back to her home," said Arun Kumar Singh, Superintendent of police (city), Gautam Buddh Nagar. The police said that the woman was shattered after hearing that her husband has committed the crime and again came to the police station after a few hours.

Following the woman's death, the family members and relatives, on Tuesday evening, staged a protest outside sector 49 police station alleging that the police have taken bribe of Rs 50,000 cash in order to release Sattan.

"Two sub-inspectors of sector 49 police station demanded Rs 5 lakh to release Sattan but they settled down on Rs 50,000 which we paid but they didn't release him," alleged a protester.

Sattan is a native of Pilakhua area of Hapur district in Uttar Pradesh. He was booked over a complaint filed by a person that his bag containing mobile phone and some cash has been stolen by someone, following which police arrested him after investigations.
