Police arrest 2 criminals after brief encounter

GREATER NOIDA: Following a gun battle, the Gautam Buddh Nagar police has arrested two criminals while they were trying to flee after snatching a cab from an Ola driver on Noida Expressway. The accused stabbed and dumped the driver on the way late on Monday night. Police said that the two accused are undergoing treatment while two other accused managed to flee from the spot.

According to the police, the gun battle took place at around 5 am in Dadri area of Greater Noida. The Two accused, identified as Rahul and Kunal, were arrested following a brief encounter. They had looted the cab from Noida Expressway and headed towards Dadri area in order to flee.

"As the informatio­n was conveyed, police teams were pushed into action to conduct checking near the Dadri toll plaza. On spotting the cab, the police asked the driver to stop the car, following which they opened fire on the police party," said Nishank Sharma, Circle Officer (Dadri).

The police said that two of the accused sustained bullet injuries in the incident and were admitted to the nearby hospital where they are undergoing treatment.

formed teams to nab the other two accused," added Sharma.

The police have recovered two country made pistols and two live cartridges from the possession of the accused persons.

On Monday night, the four accused had booked an Ola cab to Gurugram from sector 44 in Noida. However, after boarding the cab, they changed the location to Greater Noida and on the way near the expressway, one of the four took out a pistol and asked the driver to stop the cab. Later, they attacked the cab driver with a pointed object and threw him in the bushes at a deserted area on the expressway and fled with the cab.

A case under relevant section was registered at sector 39 police station of Gautam Budh Nagar.

The two have been arrested under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 394 (Voluntaril­y causing hurt in committing robbery), 411 (Dishonestl­y receiving stolen property) of the Indian Penal Code and 25/27 section of the Arms Act.
