- OUR CORRESPONDENT

NEW DELHI:

Four persons, including two children, died in two separate fire incidents which took place in north west Delhi on Friday night and south Delhi on Saturday morning.

In the first incident reported from north west Delhi’s Adarsh Nagar area, a boy and his sister were charred to death after an air conditioner compressor at their residence exploded, an officer of Delhi Fire Services (DFS) said.

A call about the fire was received at 11.15 pm Friday, after which ten fire tenders were rushed to the spot.

The fire was doused in an hour after which two children, eight-year-old Akansha and her 10-year-old elder brother Sarthak, were found dead in the building, said the DFS officer.

Anurag Garg, the man who owns the building where the deceased children lived, was reportedly not at home when the incident took place. He had reportedly contested the previous municipal election from Adarsh Nagar.

In the second incident, two people died in a fire at a tent godown in south Delhi’s Kotla Mubarakpur area on Saturday.

A call was received by the fire department at 3 am about the blaze and 10 fire tenders were rushed.

The fire was doused by 5.45 am, said a fire officer.

However, two labourers suffocated to death before help could reach.

Some local people had initially tried to douse the flames, but could not rescue the two men who died a few hours later.

It took the fire department around two hours to subdue the blaze.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Police have registered a case in the incident after it found flaws in the fire safety meausures taken by the owner of the godown.

Sources said that the godown had a lot of inflammable material, which immediately caught fire, not giving enough time to the two labourers to escape.
