- PIYUSH OHRIE

In another despicable incident reported from the Millennium City, a six-year-old girl was raped in Gurugram's Sector-43.

Police on Thursday said a case has been registered at a women's police station in the city under section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Law enforcement officials have arrested the main accused, identified as Mukesh.

According to police, Mukesh and the rape survivor's family work as labourers at an under-construction house.

On Wednesday afternoon, Mukesh, who works as a mason, asked the girl's father, who works as a plumber, to get some raw materials. As the man left his daughter behind, Mukesh sexually assaulted her.

The incident later came to light after the six-year-old, in a cryptic manner, mentioned to her father that her private parts were bleeding. After medical consultancy, it was revealed that she was sexually assaulted.

In terms of security for minors, the situation in Gurugram is quite bleak. In just three months since the beginning of the year, 30 cases of sexual crimes against minors have already been reported.

In 2017, there were 106 cases of sexual crimes against minors in the city, while in 2016, the number was 115. In addition to sex crimes, law enforcement officials have also had to deal with increased cases of human trafficking.

In 2017, 154 minors were kidnapped from the city, of which 115 were girls. Between 2012 and 2017, over 1,062 children have been kidnapped from Gurugram, out of which 677 were girls.

According to Gurugram police, gangs from Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan are highly active in committing such crimes.
