E-chalak learning for PCR drivers on the go

-

NEW DELHI: In order to improve driving skills of the drivers posted in PCR Unit of Delhi police, a driving simulator has been installed in MT/PCR, P&L Delhi. Drivers of PCR unit are being given a “Free Run” training on the driving simulator. The drivers of PCR Unit, visiting MT Section/pcr for routine repairing of PCR vehicles are given training on Driving Simulator during the time their vehicles are under repair at MT Section.

The drivers are liking it a lot as they can utilise their time and learn various aspects on screens fitted in the front giving a virtual sense of the traffic, signals and obstacles. A simulator is a device that enables the operator to reproduce or represent under test conditions phenomena likely to occur in actual performance.

In order to assess and reinforce the knowledge of the drivers, a computer-based test has been designed including knowledge of traffic signals, rules relating to MV driving, mechanism of vehicles and general awareness about traffic sense.

“The test is so designed that if any driver lags behind in the test, he has to appear for another session of training at Driving Simulator for further improvement. After the second round of training, the trainee is put on the test again. The training continues till the trainee gives correct answers to all questions displayed on the computer screen,” said Dev- ender Arya, DCP PCR.

The police feel the simulator will make the drivers more serious and more responsible in the actual working environment and this will help not only the drivers as the fist responders to a situation but also the victims in the case.

The simulator training and testing will improve driving skills of the drivers deployed on PCR vans, improving services of Delhi Police for the callers in distress. Special Commissioner of Police Sanjay Beniwal inaugurated the unit.
