Over 350 PCR calls received during storm

NEW DELHI: The unexpected storm on Sunday brought life to a near standstill for Delhiites, as residents faced several problems, especially unending traffic snarls on the city's roads.

Delhi Police claimed that they received well over 350 emergency calls about the thundersto­rm till 7.30 pm.

A senior police officer told Millennium Post that fallen trees were also being removed from various parts, with cranes being deployed.

“Over 250 calls of trees falling were received. All traffic cranes have been deployed in action. Disaster management vehicles of traffic and MCDS called for removing bigger trees,” said the Delhi Police official.

Sixty-one calls were received in the PCR about tin sheds or bricks falling due to the thundersto­rm, while 75 were received about fallen electricit­y poles.

Four incidents of wall collapse were reported from various parts of Delhi due to the storm, Delhi Fire Service (DFS) said. These were reported from Najafgarh, Nehru Place Transit Camp, Mohan Garden in Uttam Nagar and Raj Nagar in Palam due to the storm, said a DFS officer. Two fire tenders were rushed to each of the spots.

Police further claimed that apart from two deaths, two persons were critically injured in north east Delhi due to the dust storm. “We have not received any death confirmati­on till now,” said DCP (North East) Atul Thakur.
