Man held for trying to rape 75-yr-old woman in Dankaur

GREATER NOIDA: A 25-year-old man has been arrested by Gautam Buddh Nagar police for allegedly attempting to rape a 75-yearold woman in Dankaur area of Greater Noida. Police identified the accused as Waseem, who lived in victim’s neighborhood in Dankaur area.

According to police, the alleged crime took place on Monday evening, when the woman was sitting outside her house. However, the arrest was made on Wednesday morning, said cops.

“The victim was sitting outside her house at around 8 pm on Monday. The accused Waseem, who lived near her house, first allegedly tried to touch her inappropriately and then dragged her inside the house and attempted to rape her.

“When the victim started screaming, the accused fled away from the spot, threatening her not to reveal the incident to anyone,” read the complaint.

The woman, however, told the matter to her son the same night itself, following which he filed a complaint before the police the next day.

The accused was arrested from the locality on Wednesday morning and produced before the court and was remanded in judicial custody.

“Following the complaint received at the police station, an FIR under sections 354A (offence of sexual harrasment), 376 and 511 (attempt to rape) of the Indian Penal Code was registered and the accused was arrested from the locality. He has been produced before the court and has been sent to jail” said Farmood Ali Pundeer, SHO, Dankaur police station.
