Parking scuffle LEADS to shooting in Ggn’s Sector-52

- PIYUSH OHRIE

GURUGRAM: For long, Gurugram has been plagued by parking problems; a fact that has often been acknowledged by the district officials as well. One such parking scuffle, however, took a near fatal turn on Monday, after an altercation culminated in gunshots being fired in Sector-52 area.

Gurugram Police on Wednesday said that differences between two neighbours, identified as Dharam Pal and Kalu, over parking lots resulted in Kalu firing at Dharam Pal in a fit of rage. Luckily, there was no casualty.

Earlier too, cases have been reported in Gurugram where differences over parking issues have taken a violent turn.

To address this problem, the public agencies have adopted various measures, which include introducing free parking in malls at MG road and Sohna Road and encouraging vacant plots to be used as parking spaces. Recently, the first multi-level parking lot was opened at Sector-29.

Despite such measures, lack of parking spaces continues to be a major issue in Gurugram, often leading to several complaints of illegal parking.

With the city still reeling from the challenges of traffic mismanagement and lack of walking spaces, sources in Gurugram Police said that their drive against wrongly and/or illegally parked vehicles will improve the situation.

Sources in the police highlighted that the emphasis of the drive will be on crowded areas, where pedestrians often face difficulties due to vehicles parked on footpaths.

They also claimed that as the number of complaints from the residential sectors is increasing, cops and government agencies will keep a vigil on residential areas.
