NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Friday said they have arrested two men who used a classified advertising platforms for cheating several people in Delhi.

Cops said the accused, identified as Amir Khan and Mohammed Uvais, were arrested from Yamuna Vihar on Thursday.

They said that incidents were reported in the area wherein the accused persons would come to meet unsuspecting people, who wished to sell their motorcycles on the classified advertising app. The accused would take a ride on the bike for a test drive, but then flee without a trace.

“The accused would then sell the bike again on the same classified app, after preparing forged papers and fake number plates,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East) Atul Kumar Thakur.

“It was found that many customers using the particular app were cheated by using different mobile numbers. However, on enquiry from the victims, the physical description of the accused persons was found to be similar,” he said.

The DCP added that on analysising these mobile numbers, it was found that the numbers was frequently used in different localities of Loni area of Ghaziabad.

Cops approached the clas- sified app company to seek details and got vital clues about the numbers used by the accused, which eventually led to the arrest of the two men.

During interoggation, the accused told cops that they were not satisfied with their meagre salary and wanted to live a lavish life.

Thus, the accused first started purchasing bikes at cheap rates and then sell them at much higher prices.

Later, the duo realised the options available on classified advertising apps and decided to exploit it to rob bike sellers.

“A few months back, in one of such incidents, they went near Anand Vihar bus sstand to purchase a bike from a seller found on the app and fled away with that bike for taking a test drive,” said police.

They then sold it to another customer in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, by placing a fake number plate and forging papers.
