Man arrested for killing wife after she refused to cook food

GREATER NOIDA: Gautam Buddh Nagar police on Sunday arrested a man for allegedly strangling his wife with a scarf after she refused to cook food for him in Ecotech III area of Greater Noida, said police.

The accused has been identified as Mukesh(39), a worker in a private factory. Originally from Farrukhaba­d area of Uttar Pradesh, he was living with his wife Rekha, a native of Unnao, and their two children in a rented accommodat­ion in Kulesra village under Ecotech III area.

The couple was married for around 12 years and used to quarrel over small issues.

According to police, an argument broke out between the couple over some issue late on Saturday night following which Rekha refused to cook food for the family. Mukesh allegedly strangled his wife with a scarf in a fit of anger.

“Mukesh fled the spot after committing the crime. The kids saw their mother lying unconsciou­s and tried to wake her up thinking that she is sleeping. When she didn’t respond, the children started crying and their neighbors gathered at the house hearing the loud screams and informed police about the incident,” a senior police officer said.

A police team went to the house, where they discovered Rekha’s body as well as the scarf used to strangle her. The deceased’s family lodged a complaint at the police station following which a probe was launched and the arrest was made on Sunday.

“We have arrested the accused on Sunday, who has confessed to murdering his wife. He has been produced before a duty magistrate on Sunday and has been sent to the jail”, said Raj pal Tomar, SHO, Ecotech III police station.
