Capital witnesses the second edition of ‘Purnima concert series’

traditions and culture, full moon holds immense significance in the lives of Indians. Keeping the importance in mind, Indira Gandhi National Center for Art (IGNCA) has started ‘Purnima Concert Series’ in which music and dance performances are presented every month. The series, which was started with Buddha purnima, witnessed a power-packed performance by famous singer Bombay Jayashree during its first edition.

Owing to the positive response from the audience, IGNCA hosted the second edition of the monthly series on May 25, in which the young artist Majusha Patil from Gwalior Gharana sang Bhajan devoted to Lord Krishna. Majusha Patil, who is a disciple of famous classical singer Ullas Kasalkar has received Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar by the Sangeet Natak Akademi in 2010.

The evening started with the compositions of ‘Hari ke Kamal Charan’ in Ragasree. In her performance, Manjusha Patil presented the Kunwar Shyam ji, Sadarjit Singh and Marathi famous ‘Gauran’ (Ras Leela) ‘Shri Ranga Kamala Kanant and many more. She sang an ancient classical song composed by Kunwar Shyam ji, which she learned from her mentor Ullas Kaisalkar. Her performance amidst the dimly lit night enthralled the audience to the fullest. Manjusha Patil concluded the program in Bhairavi with the praise of Mira Bai, by singing ‘My Sange Rangaraji’.
