With a pass percentage of 94.1 in the CBSE Class XII examination, girl students of Delhi government schools performed better than their male counterparts, who had a pass percentage 85.98.

This year, the pass percentage of students of Delhi government schools increased to 90.64, 2.37 higher than last year’s 88.27 per cent. Meanwhile, the pass percentage of private schools students in the city was 88.35.

More impressive is the fact that the pass percentage of Delhi government schools in this year’s Class XII CBSE exam is second only to government schools in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram, where the pass percentage stood at 99.11 per cent. Last year, the pass percentage of government schools in Kerala’s capital was a staggering 100 per cent.

After the results were declared on Saturday, Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia took to Twitter to congratulate his government.

“Results of Delhi government schools this year are ahead of private schools this year as well. Greetings to all. Students and teachers of government schools have performed 2.37% better than their last year’s results,” Sisodia tweeted.

As per data from the Directorate of Education (DOE) and CBSE, this year, Delhi government schools achieved their highest pass percentage in the last 20 years. In 1998, only 63.45 per cent of government school students passed the Class XII exam, according to the DOE.

The number climbed steadily over the years, reaching 72.54 per cent in 2000. It crossed 80 per cent for the first time in 2007, when 82.73 per cent of government school students passed the exam.

Prince, the son of a DTC bus driver and a student of the Delhi government’s Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalaya in Dwarka’s Sector 10, topped the CBSE Class XII exam. Prince’s family received congratulations from Sisodia on Twitter.

In another tweet, the Deputy Chief Minister, said “It was a touching moment to speak to Prachi Prakash and her family, topper of Delhi Govt school, Commerce stream in Class 12. Daughter of a small private company executive, Prachi got 96.2 per cent with 100/100 in Eco, 99/100 in Math.”

He also posted a picture of the girl and her family, and spoke to Chitra Kaushik, the daughter of a Delhi Police assistant sub-inspector, who topped the Delhi government schools in Arts stream.

“Daughter of an ASI in Delhi Police, she got 95.6 per cent with 100/100 in History, 97/100 in Pol. Science,” he tweeted.

Delhi’s private schools, on the other hand, recorded a 4.15 increase in pass percentage, while still trailing government schools, at 88.35. However, schools like Amity International School-vasundhara and DPS RK Puram performed well.
