Over 13 lakh liquor bottles seized in last five yrs

NEW DELHI: Cracking down on bootlegger­s and keeping a tight check on illicit liquor supply, the Delhi police has seized a whopping 13.41 lakh bottles of lillicit liquor since 2014 and May 15 this year.

The Delhi Police data reveled that in 2018 alone, more than 2.12 lakh bottles of liquor have been siezed till May 15.

In 2014, cops registered 1,408 cases, in which 1,460 persons were arrested by Delhi police.

In terms of seizure, 1.74 lakh bottles of country made liquor have been seized, whereas 35,807 IMFL (Indian made foreign liquor) were confiscate­d, along with 4,422 bottles of beer.

During 2015, cops registered 1,967 cases, in which 2,021 persons were arrested. In terms of seizure, 2.79 lakh bottles of country made liquor has been seized whereas 55,654 IMFL were confiscate­d, along with 6,929 beer bottles.

In 2016, as many as 2,356 cases were registered, in which 2,454 persons were arrested by Delhi Police.

In terms of seisure 35,036 bottles of country made liquor has been seized, whereas 1.01 lakh IMFL were confiscate­d along with 18,809 beer bottles.

Last year, cops registered 2,827 cases, in which 2,900 persons were arrested.

In these cases, 4.87 lakh bottles of country-made liquor were seized, whereas 69,651 IMFL were also confiscate­d, along with 16,256 beer bottles

In 2018, till May 15, cops registered 1,242 cases in which 1,224 persons were arrested.

1.78 lakh bottles of country made liquor were seized, 30,289 bottles of of IMFL were confiscate­d and 3,592 beer bottles.

All these seized bottles have destroyed after following the due process under law. GREATER NOIDA: Gautam Buddh Nagar police, on Wednesday, arrested a 26-yearold man for allegedly strangling his wife to death in Bisrakh area of Greater Noida as he suspected his wife of having extra marital affair.

Police said that the incident took place on Tuesday evening while the accused was arrested on Wednesday and has been sent to jail. According to the police, the accused has been identified as Aaqil who chocked his wife Iqra to death after having a heated argument.

“On Tuesday afternoon, Aaqil had an heated argument with his wife as he used to suspect her of having an extra marital affair. Suddenly, Aaqil lost his cool and chocked her neck and raised an alarm after which the neighbours arrived at the spot and Aaqil fled the spot stating that he suspects her lover to have committed the crime,” said a senior police officer.

The locals informed police about the incident upon which police team reached the spot and rushed Iqra to a near by hospital where she was declared brought dead.
