DDA to provide its sports complexes for school level tournaments
NEW DELHI: The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) on Wednesday in a meeting chaired by Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal decided to provide its sports complexes for school level programmes.
“Facilities at all DDA sports complexes during non-peak hours would be utilised for conducting school level competitions/tournaments in various sports activities throughout the year. DDA would also approach Sports Authority of India for utilisation of DDA’S sports infrastructure for organizing regional, national and international level tournaments/championships,” said an official.
He added that facility for a particular sports discipline would be identified at each major DDA sports complex to make these complexes Centres for Excellence in these sports. SAI would be consulted for providing coaches to undertake coaching at these sports complexes. DDA also decided to develop sports facilities in various areas.
“Facilities like football, cricket and hockey grounds, athletics/jogging track, tennis, volleyball and basketball courts, skating rink, multigym, etc., would be developed at these sites as there is a huge demand for these sports facilities,” noted the official.
He also said that lands which cannot be developed for their intended purpose due to site constraints could be identified for development of sports/recreation facilities like jogging tracks, yoga sheds, etc., which would allow their public utilization as well as upgrade these areas and prevent encroachment.
