Two Nigerians among 3 found dead in Delhi flat

- ABHAY SINGH

Three persons, including two Nigerians, were found dead in a rented accommodation in west Delhi, police said on Friday.

“The three lived in two rented flats in Uttam Nagar. Two of them, according to documents found in their flats, are Nigerians. We are yet to confirm the identity of the third person,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Shibesh Singh said.

“The bodies have been sent for autopsy. Prima facie, there is no indication of a homicide. We are awaiting post-mortem reports,” the officer said.

Whether it was foul play or whether the death of the two Nigerian nationals and another unidentified man was caused by overdose from a ‘cocktail of narcotic drugs’ is yet to be determined by cops.

However, Delhi Police on Friday said they have started an investigation from several angles, after they recovered the three bodies from a house in Budh Bazaar area of west Delhi’s Uttam Nagar.

Asha, the landlady of the house who lives on the ground floor, claimed that on Friday morning she saw some African people going to the third floor, where the victims resided.

“I asked them the reason for going to the third floor and they told me that three persons had died in the house. I then went upstairs and found it to be true. Immediately, I made a PCR call,” the landlady claimed.

Police said they were informed around 12.30 pm.

After they reached the spot, police found that the bodies were found in two separate rooms.

“Two persons were found in one room and another person was found in a different room. We suspect a drug overdose to be the cause of the deaths. But only after investigation will things become clear,” said a police official.

One of the investigators in the case told Millennium Post that blood was found on the spot, along with a yellow substance, which cops suspect was vomit from the victims.

Cops said that the two Nigerian victims were identified as Christopher David and Ban Greece.

The identity of the third male victim, however, is yet to be ascertained.

Police said that the body was discovered by one Victor, who lives on the second floor of the building, when he went to the third floor and saw that the door was ajar and the three men were lying unconscious.

However, instead of calling the police, Victor fled the area.

“We questioned him and he said that he was frightened and did not have any idea what to do, which is why he left,” said a senior police officer.

Cops further alleged that one of the bodies had some black marks on it, which is being investigated.

There are several angles being investigated by the cops. The most potent of these angles is that of accidental drug overdose. “It will be clear once we get the post-mortem report,” said the officer.

Asha claimed that the last time she saw the victims was Thursday evening, when they were bringing water upstairs.

“They used to talk very little, but their behaviour was good. Some smell also came to the ground floor on Thursday night. I suspected that someone had burnt somthing on the farm nearby the house. I switched off the water cooler, because the smell was coming in my room,” she added.
