Duo on scooty mowed down by unidentifi­ed vehicle in Civil Lines

NEW DELHI: Two youth from Haryana died in north Delhi’s Civil Lines after the scooty they were on was hit by an unknown vehicle late Friday night.

Police said the victims were identified as 24-year-old Akshat Kamboj, a resident of Model Town in Karnal, and 25-year-old Vikhyat Pandit, a resident of Palwal. Both were BA LLB graduates and preparing for judiciary exam in Mukharjee Nagar.

On Friday, the two were returning to Delhi after having dinner, when a vehicle struck their scooty them near Dr Ambedkar National Memorial hospital. Both were rushed to a nearby hospital, but were declared brought dead.

Police later sent the bodies for post-mortem and informed the families of both the victims.

They have launched a search for the offending vehicle and its driver, who fled the spot after the incident.

“We received a PCR call regarding accident near Dr Ambedkar National Memorial in Civil Lines. The police team reached the spot and found the victims dead on the road,” said a senior police officer.

Teams have been formed to analyse the footage of CCTV cameras in the area where the accident occurred so as to identify the vehicle and its driver.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, cops added.
