Gurugram RTA collected Rs 1 cr fine in a month

GURUGRAM: Massive crackdown on vehicles not following the rules and regulation­s has resulted in the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) of Gurugram collecting more than Rs one crore in fine for the month of February. The RTA in the month of February penalised five hundred and fifty two vehicles in Gurugram and collected over rupees one crore fourteen lakhs in fines in February.

The officials of RTA Gurugram highlighte­d that there were over 400 overloaded buses that were being penalised by the state government agency. Overloaded trucks have often been considered as the main reason for not only rising accidents but also a cause for high levels pollution in the city.

It is estimated that two out of three accidents at Delhi-jaipur highway is caused by the heavy vehicles. Various studies that have been conducted on the drivers have revealed that more than 50 percent of the drivers of the truck have poor eyesight.

Officials also indicate that the visibility further decreased during driving heavy vehicles. Other factors resulting in the deadly mishap are fatigue, over speeding, drunken driving and overloadin­g.

“The RTA has collected unpreceden­ted amount of fines in the May. The total amount collected by RTA in the month of May is Rs one crore, fourteen lakhs,” said a senior RTA official.
