Wife fighting for life after suffering 40 per cent burn injuries
A 40-year-old man allegedly threw an acidlike substance on his wife and two daughters, and then killed himself by consuming it in north east Delhi’s Karawal Nagar area, police said on Sunday.
Law enforcement officials claimed that initial investigation suggested that regular quarrels between the couple was the cause of the incident.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East) RP Meena on Sunday said that the incident came to light on Saturday afternoon, when a a PCR call was received around 3.15 pm at Karawal Nagar police station, where the family’s neighbour told the cops about the incident.
“Police staff reached the spot immediately and found that Yashpal, around 40 years old, was lying dead and his wife and two daughters were injured,” said the senior police official.
He further said that the injured were taken to GTB Hospital immediately, where they are under treatment.
The senior officer added that the wife suffered critical injuries, and has about 40 per cent burn injuries. The daughters, meanwhile, suffered partial burn injuries, but are in a stable condition.
In the course of their investigation, police have so far found that the couple was not having a good relationship.
“They used to quarrel regularly on various issues,” said an investigator.
On Saturday, a quarrel between the couple started as usual, but soon turned gory when Yashpal brought some acidic substance and threw it on his wife. The substance also fell on his daughters, who were standing nearby. Subsequently, Yashpal himself drank it and died on the spot.
“Before entering the house, he had bought the acid-like substance. We are investigating why he brought it with him. When he threw the substance on his wife, the minor daughters were standing nearby and was also injured,” said the police officer. Cops said they are questioning the family members to get more details.
In a similar incident in November 2017, two women were found murdered in a house in Timarpur. The suspect was one the deceased women’s husband, who was later found to have killed himself.
