Saturday showers bring mercury down across Delhi
Mercury slipped by several notches in the Capital a day after the city was hit by a dust storm, with the minimum temperature settling at a pleasant 23.4 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, relative humidity was recorded at 70 per cent on Sunday morning.
“The minimum settled at 23.4 degrees Celsius, five notches below normal. The weather today is pleasant due to rains and thunderstorm yesterday,” an official of the Meteorological Department said.
Some trees toppled and several hoardings also fell down from the impact of Sunday’s storm, which last an hour. The situation looked almost looked like a catastrophe. Soon, rains followed, which lasted for a decent amount of time.
In the last 48 hours since 8.30 am on Saturday, Delhi’s Palam recorded moderate showers to the tune of 27 mm, while Safdarjung saw light showers of 4.7 mm. Simultaneously, Ayanagar recorded 17.3 mm, Narela 16 mm, and Ridge 11 mm.
On Sunday, the minimum temperature recorded at other weather stations were 25.3 degrees Celsius at Lodhi Road, 23.6 degrees Celsius at Palam, 22.7 degrees Celsius at Ayanagar and 15 degrees Celsius at Ridge.
On Saturday, the minimum temperature had settled at 30 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season’s average while the maximum was recorded at 40.5 degrees Celsius.
