NEW DELHI: In August last year, two empty train coaches at Anand Vihar railway station were set ablaze by unknown miscreants.

This was one of the cases reported from the Capital where property dedicated to public use was damaged by the rioteers.

According the Delhi Police, between January 2016 and May 2018, more than 20 cases were registered under the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act (PDPP) Act.

Police further claimed they have made more than 10 arrests so far in all these case.

The data accessed by Millennium Post claimed that as many as 22 cases had been reported during this period.

“The year 2016 witnessed 14 cases registered under PDPP Act. There was a decrease in this number in 2017, as only five cases came to police. Meanwhile, till May 31 this year, city police registered three cases,” stated the Delhi Police data.

This year has not seen any arrest in PDDP cases so far. However, last year witnessed five arrests, while the number of arrested persons in 2016 was nine, police officials said.

Last year, in a joint operation of Railway Police Force and the Special Cell of Delhi police, the joint team arrested four followers of self-styled godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.

The arrested men were involved in setting fire to empty coaches stabled at Anand Vihar Railway Yard, in retaliation to the conviction of Gurmeet Ram Rahim by a special court in Haryana.

In some protest, there are often chances that agitated protestors cause damage to public property. In such contingencies, Delhi Police prepares itself with due diligence.

There are different security layers prepared by police in case of massive protests, which include ropes, barricades and use of force like lathi-charge.

Cops first talk to the protesters and try to resolve the matter. If it proves futile, they make sure to barricade the area properly – a major step which is intimated to them during police briefing.

In 2017, Delhi Police saw over 9,000 programmes, including demonstrations, dharnas held in the Capital. NEW DELHI: With the glittering Jama Masjid in the background , a group of intellectuals from both Shia and Sunni sects of Islam gathered on Sunday to observe an Iftar with a difference.

The ‘Iftar For Unity’ was organised to give a platform for both communities to spread a message of unity and peace, drive home the unity between the two sects. The programme gained significance after a message went viral on social media claiming that the Darul Uloom had refrained Sunnis from attending iftars organised by Shias. Speakers from both groups on Sunday emphasised on promoting brotherhood.
