Man held for trying to dump body of live-in partner

GHAZIABAD: A 28-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday by Ghaziabad Police for trying to dump the partially decomposed body of his livein partner after stuffing into a suitcase.

Police said that the woman was murdered around two days ago, but on late Tuesday night, the accused tried to dump her rotting body after he claimed to have found that she committed suicide at their residence.

According to police, the incident took place in Vandana Enclave society in Khora area of Ghaziabad, where the victim Jyoti Verma – a native of Ludhiana district in Punjab – lived in a rented apartment in with her partner Shivam Vidhi. Verma worked in a famous salon in Delhi, cops added.

Police said that the incident came to light when the accused was discovered to be carrying the suitcase in a car, as it was giving a strong stench.

“A few locals felt a foul smell coming out of the suitcase and stopped the car to see into it. However, the accused fled away the spot, leaving the car behind. They immediatel­y alerted police and a police team reached the spot and recovered the woman’s partially decomposed body after breaking a window pane of the car” said a senior police officer.

Police have sent the body for post-mortem and, on later on Wednesday, arrested the accused from Khora area.

“Following the arrest, we interrogat­ed the accused, upon which he told us that the woman used to remain upset over his drinking habit and often they used to fight with each other.

“He further revealed that two days ago, when he returned home, he found her hanging from the ceiling fan. Out of fear, he decided not to tell anyone and dumped her body after stuffing it into the suitcase,” a senior police officer said.

Police are now waiting for the post-mortem reports to ascertain whether the woman was murdered or she committed suicide.

“The body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem, reports of which are awaited. We have informed her family members and will register a case based on the complaint received,” said Dharmendra Kumar, station house officer, Khora police station. “A trap was laid and the accused were nabbed, and the stolen vehicle being driven by Jaipal was confiscate­d. It was found to have been stolen from the jurisdicti­on of Shalimar Bagh police station,” said Prasad.

Based on their revelation, from the garage, four stolen cars were recovered.

Based on the complaint filed by the victims, a case under sections 452 (house trespass after preparatio­n for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 307 (attempt to murder), 354-A (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 323 (punishment for voluntaril­y causing hurt), 324 (voluntaril­y causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and several other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Cops said that the arrested men have been identified as Aarif, Shabir, Sonu and Sarfaraz, while some other accused are still at large.

“We conducted raids at their whereabout­s and managed to arrest Aarif, Shabir, Sonu and Sarfaraz, while another accused Rahul is absconding. Some people from the village have been detained by the police for questionin­g,” said a senior police officer.
