COP INJURED IN CELEBRATOR­Y FIRING

NEW DELHI: A Delhi Police sub-inspector was injured during celebrator­y firing at a birthday party in Samaypur Badli area of Rohini district on Friday, with cops saying on Saturday they are investigat­ing the case to nab the culprits.

According to police, the incident was reported around 10.15 pm on Friday, after which a police team reached the spot and the victim sub-inspector Harish, posted in Samaypur Badli, was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Cops said that Harish had been invited to the birthday party of a friend’s daughter. One Rahul Yadav, of the same area had hosted the party.

“In celebrator­y firing, a bullet struck hit SI Harish. One of the shrapnel hit him in the middle of the chest, while another hit him in the shoulder with less force,” said a senior police officer.

He further said that the larger shrapnel pierced Harish’s lungs, stomach and is struck in his spleen.

Following the incident, a case under section 307 (attempt to murder) was registered against unknown persons.

A family member of the victim said they did not know what happened, and came to the hospital as soon as the news reached them. Harish lives with his family in Samaypur Badli, which includes his parents, a younger brother and a wife. He joined Shahbad Dairy Police Station as sub-inspector in 2017.

Police said they are scanning CCTV footage of the incident to get clue, while no arrests have been made yet.
