Turkey ambassador joins EPCH to celebrate yoga day

With the objective to recognize yoga as a holistic approach to health and well-being, and thereby raise awareness on the benefits of practicing yoga amongst the participan­ts, Export Promotion Council for Handicraft­s (EPCH) celebrated Internatio­nal Yoga Day at Panch Shila Club, New Delhi with around 100 exporters and their families.

Turkey was one of the initial countries who supported the Indian resolution to United Nation for the declaratio­n of June 21 as Internatio­nal yoga day. Hence, to recognise the effort, Sakir Ozkan Torunlar, Ambassador of Turkey to India was welcomed as the Chief Guest for the evening.

Internatio­nal Yoga Day is celebrated annually on June 21 since its inception in 2015. An internatio­nal day for yoga, which is a physical, mental and spiritual practice originated in India, was declared unanimousl­y by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

O P Prahladka, Chairman-epch and Rakesh Kumar, Executive Directorep­ch were among the other dignitarie­s present on the occasion.

The programme was conducted by Hath Yoga practition­er, who is also an expert in Vinyasa Yoga. During the one-hour session, various breathing exercises and other Yoga asanas were performed and their benefits were explained to the participan­ts. A Naturopath­y expert was also present on the occasion to talk about the benefits of eating healthy and eating right.

Following the yoga session, best yoga performers awards were given in various categories which included best yogic body, best flexible body, best yoga pose, best youngest yogi boy, best youngest yogi girl and best elderly yogi.
