Thrown out of house by family, elderly man seeks police commission­er’s help

NEW DELHI: An 83-yearold man has approached Delhi Police Commission­er Amulya Patnaik for help in getting back his house in Dwarka from his family.

A complaint has been sent to the office of the commission­er of police by the victim which stated that the complainan­t was working as an advocate before he fell sick.

“My son and daughter-inlaw who were living in a separate house in Dwarka returned to the victim when his wife was in bed,” said the complaint.

A family member who did not want to be named stated that after the victim’s son and his wife returned to his house, the mental torture started. The wife of the complainan­t has passed away.

“He was kicked out of his house in Dwarka,” said the family member, adding that the elderly man is a cancer patient.

After facing harassment, the elderly man approached Delhi Police so that he can get back his house.

“When he lived with his son and his daughter-in-law, her family was involved in the conspiracy to make sure that his health declines,” added the family member.

After the 83-year-old was knocked out of his house, one of his relatives came to know about his situation and she took him to her house in Delhi where he is receiving treatment.

More than 200 persons have been arrested on different charges related to crime against senior citizens. Data accessed by Millennium Post stated that in 2016, 123 persons were nabbed for their involve- ment in different types of crimes against senior citizens.

As many as 36 persons were arrested for murder whereas 87 persons were arrested for robbery.

Last year, 134 persons were arrested for their involvemen­t in crime against senior citizens. Fifty-two persons were arrested for murder whereas 80 persons were arrested for robbery. Two persons were arrested for rape.

Data for 2018, till April 15, claimed that Delhi Police has arrested 17 persons involved in different types of crime against senior citizens. NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has arrested two bike thieves who used to steal bikes from Delhincr and sell them in Meerut, Etah and Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh. Cops on Thursday said the accused were identified as Azad, a resident of Hapur, UP, and Rahul, a resident of Delhi’s Sangam Vihar.

On the instance of accused Azad, 10 stolen motorcycle­s have been recovered. During sustained interrogat­ion, accused Azad disclosed that he has stolen more than 200 motorcycle­s and was previously involved in 68 cases of autotheft. He used to steal bikes from the Delhi-ncr area and handed them over to his associates Lukman and Jabbar to shift them to one Mannu Kabadi in Meerut. Accused Azad used to pay Rs 1,000-1,500 to Lukman and Jabbar for shifting the motorcycle­s to Mannu Kabadi. Mannu used to dismantle the motorcycle­s and sell the parts to genuine shopkeeper­s.

During sustained interrogat­ion, accused Rahul alias Bengali stated that he used to work in a garment factory in Okhla but was not earning enough to meet his needs. Therefore, he decided to steal motorcycle­s and earn quick money.

“He was looking forward to dispose of the stolen bikes in Etah and Mainpuri. Accused Rahul used to target motorcycle­s parked in residentia­l and market areas. He used to conduct a recce of the spot before stealing the motorcycle. He was looking forward to selling the stolen bikes for Rs 7,00010,000,” DCP (South East) Chinmoy Biswal said.
