NCPCR translating laws into Hindi for children's safety

NEW DELHI: Many laws related to the children are in English and sometimes it becomes difficult for the stakeholders like parents, government officials to understand the language as they are from Hindi background. For making it easy for them, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) is now working to provide the laws in Hindi.

The child rights' body has found that in many cases it is difficult for the stakeholders to understand laws as many of them are not well-versed in English. So, they are translating the laws into a Hindi booklet which they will be sent to police stations, Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and parents in Delhi as well as in other states so that they can understand the laws which are meant for the safety of children.

The commission will soon hold a meeting with the concerned officials so that they can brief them about the whole process. Yashwant Jain, member NCPCR, stated that the commission has been working in this regard and soon it will come up with something substantive. The commission had asked Internet Service Providers Association of India to monitor child abuse contents and stop such videos going on the Internet. A copy of the four-page letter is with the Millennium Post. The letter stated that the internet service providers showing the identity of the child victim of sexual abuse is violations of JJ Act, POCSO and IT Act.

An official from the child rights' body claimed that many persons without knowing the law share the videos of child abuse on social media as they are unaware of the laws. from August 26, 2016 to December 8, 2017, there were 59 complaints which were registered under POCSO and out of which 46 cases were disposed of.
