Intensify vector-control measures: LG to agencies

NEW DELHI: With the arrival of monsoon in the capital, Delhi Lieutenant-governor (LG) Anil Baijal on Thursday directed local bodies and other agencies to intensify vectorcont­rol measures. Baijal also directed authoritie­s concerned to ensure coordinati­on with neighbouri­ng states in order to be prepared to tackle the vector-borne diseases. The directives were issued at a meeting that was chaired by the LG to discuss the status of measures taken to combat mosquitobo­rne diseases such as Dengue, Chikunguny­a and Malaria, and seasonal influenza in the city.

The meeting was attended by Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain, North Delhi Municipal Corporatio­n (NDMC) Chairman Naresh Kumar and senior officers of the health and urban developmen­t depart- ments. Three municipal commission­ers, Public Works Department, police, railway and Delhi Metro Rail Corporatio­n officials among others were also present.

The LG was informed that letters along with an advisory, including 'Dos & Don'ts', have been sent to various government and private offices, buildings and institutio­ns for prevention and control of vector-borne diseases, according to a statement issued by the L-G office. "The LG has directed for intensific­ation of vectorcont­rol measures by the field staff of local bodies (domestic breeding checkers or DBCS). "Regular house-to-house visits for checking and eliminatin­g all possible breeding sites should be made, besides regular monitoring of DBCS by higher officials," LG office said.
