- PIYUSH OHRIE

GURUGRAM: Gurugram police on Wednesday evening, conducted yet another raid after a tip-off and busted a sex racket. This time, however, the raid was conducted at two pubs located in the prominent malls on the MG road. Two owners among five persons so far have been arrested by the police. This incident may be termed as yet another successful operation by the police in busting the sex trade racket that is still rampant in the city.

The fact that this was happening in two famous nightclubs has now opened a plethora of challenges for the law enforcement officials. Sources in the Gurugram police say that criminal activities like flesh trade, drug pedaling, betting to even the sale of illegal firearms take place in these places of recreation. Recently, a person of Afghanistan origin was arrested after he was found selling drugs in some of these famous pubs and bars. Not expressing any surprise on the criminal activities that are happening in the nightclubs, the law enforcement officials are now gearing up to the challenge of tackling the problem head-on. Two raids have been conducted on the pubs in which more than 50 persons have been apprehended for indulging in unethical activities, ever since the new police commissioner KK Rao has taken charge.

In a disturbing revelation that came to the fore in one of these raids, four foreigners among the 17 people were detained by the district police for unethical activities. These criminal activities is in addition to regular crimes like molestations and brawls that continue to be reported.

Taking cognizance of the prevailing problem, Gurugram police Commissioner himself is monitoring the situation to deal with the major law and order challenges. Recently, he issued a guideline to all the 200 pubs and bars in the city to close at 12 am. Regular surveillance is also being done on regular basis by the policemen in plain clothes. “There are certain miscreants everywhere and so is the case with the pubs and bars of Gurugram. There is no denying the fact that these nightclubs have contributed a great deal in city's economy and we will make sure that these unfortunate incidents do not impact the entire nightlife of the city,” said a senior police official from Gurugram police.

“We are in constant touch with the pub owners and requesting them to comply with the law so that effective law and order situation is maintained,” he added. This is not for the first time when the malls located here have found themselves on the wrong side of the law. Earlier, there have been incidents where more than 100 children below 18 years were held boozing illegally in one of the pubs at MG Road.
