CM INSPECTS WORK IN UNAUTHORISED COLONIES
Funds for development works to be sanctioned in 15 days: CM
After visiting unauthorised colonies in Kirari on Saturday, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal directed that the Budget required for development work in all the unauthorised colonies will be sanctioned in 15 days.
“Now, the projects will be carried out on a war footing. The Budget required for development works in these colonies all over Delhi, especially roads and drains, would be sanctioned within 15 days time,” Kejriwal said, after visiting Braj Vihar Colony and Karan Vihar PART-III in Kirari, where he took stock of roads and drains being constructed.
In Braj Vihar, he met locals who complained that the work under progress was shoddy. They told the CM that the material being used, especially bricks, were substandard and the work has been stalled for more than two months now.
After hearing the complaints, the CM ordered the bricks to be sent for quality testing. He also warned officials over the complaints and said they would be placed under suspension if the mistake was repeated.
The contractor executing the project promised that the complaints would be addressed at the earliest and that the project would be completed a month before the deadline.
At Karan Vihar PART-III, residents told Kejriwal that they were very happy with the roads and drains being constructed.
He visited three different lanes to take stock of the projects executed, and received no complaints.
After the visit to the two areas of Kirari, Kejriwal said development of unauthorised colonies was one of the primary agenda of his government, but it was delayed due to interference of the Lieutenant Governor.
However, after the Supreme Court decision on Wednesday, the projects are expected to be speeded up.
The battle over administrative jurisdiction and governance of Delhi intensified after the apex court had ruled in favour of the elected city government and clipped the LG’S independent decision-making powers.
On Friday, the Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government promptly cleared backto-back projects that were pending awaiting the Centre’s decision.
