SHIV VIHAR-IP EXTENSION SECTION OF PINK LINE TO OPEN IN AUG
The much awaited Pink line corridor ‘Shiv Vihar Metro Station to IP Extension' is expected to be thrown open for passengers from August, as the trail run on this line is on verge of the completion. “The trial runs between the over 10-km-long elevated section between IP extension and Shiv Vihar Metro Station are going on and the section is likely to be opened in August,” said a DMRC official.
The official further said, “The necessary documentation for sending the application for the inspection by the Commissioner for Rail Safety (CMRS) is being done now and some other mandatory approvals are being taken. After the completion of all these formalities, the application for inspection by CMRS will be sent.”
However ,“trial runs are in progress between Shiv Vihar and IP Extension and will be extended up to Trilokpuri very shortly. Moreover, The section between Lajpat Nagar and Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 is expected to be completed by September. The section between Trilokpuri and Mayur Vihar Pocket 1, is however, not ready due to land issues at Trilokpuri,” said the official.
According to the official, “The special thing is that this will be the first section of Metro to facilitate better connectivity to large parts of North-east Delhi, which will facilitate the movement of millions of people.” He also added that this section has three interchange stations, at Anand Vihar, Karkardooma and Welcome, The official added that this section of Pink Line is connecting the major transport facility coming across the Ncr-delhi like Anand Vihar railway station and Anand Vihar ISBT.
The entire elevated corridor has 12 stations, IP Extension, Anand Vihar, Karkardooma, Karkardooma Court, Krishna Nagar, East Azad Nagar, Welcome, Jaffrabad and Maujpur, Gokal Puri, West Johri Pur and Shiv Vihar metro station.
The 59-km-long corridor (Line 7) known as Pink Line of the DMRC network, is part of the Phase-iii project, and trial runs on its other stretches are also being conducted, the officials said. "The new signalling technology, known as the Communication Based Train Control (CBTC), will be implemented on this corridor, and will undergo rigorous testing in stages,” official added.
"The response of the train at different speeds, braking, and the interconnection with the Operations Control Centre (OCC) will also be monitored during the trials. The behaviour of the track system and the Over Head Electrification (OHE) will be checked repeatedly," the DMRC said.
The officials said that construction of this section faced many challenges, including management of heavy traffic at various points at Patparganj, Anand Vihar, Welcome, Jaffrabad and Maujpur.
"The construction in running drain, land acquisition at Patparganj, Anand Vihar, Welcome, Jaffrabad and Maujpur also posed a bottleneck during construction," the official said.
"The Maujpur station is a four-track station, having provision for connection from Maujpur to Mukundpur, a corridor proposed in the Phase-iv project of the DMRC network," the official said.
