- OUR CORRESPONDENT

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Sunday said they have arrested a Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable, while a constable of Uttar Pradesh Police is absconding, for murdering an LIC agent in north Delhi’s Sarai Rohilla and dumping his body in a river bed in Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh.

Cops said that 28-year-old Prem Kumar was killed after the constable duo’s attempt to kidnap him went awry.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Nupur Prasad on Sunday stated that around 1.45 am on July 20, a call was received at Inderlok police post regarding Prem’s disappearance. His elderly father, who lives in Sarai Rohilla, told cops that on July 19 Prem had gone to the railway colony in Daya Basti area and thereafter his phone was switched off.

“The father told us that Prem had Rs 20,000 on him,” added the officer.

During enquiry, cops found out that Prem had gone the residence of Ajay Kumar, an RPF constable, to sell him an insurance police.

Soon, Ajay was questioned and he claimed that Prem did come to his house but left in a few hours. Later, police also found Prem’s within 50 metres of Ajay’s house.

The DCP said that Ajay was on Saturday interrogated and he confessed that he and Sarvesh, a UP Police constable, killed Prem while they were trying to overpower him to kidnap him for ransom.

“Ajay was having some financial trouble. He used to regularly see Prem in his area and thought that he must have a lot of money. Soon, he and Sarvesh hatched a plan to kidnap the LIC agent for ransom,” said the police officer.

“Ajay invited Prem to his house and he and Sarveshtried to overpower him. But Prem was tall and strong, so they used a rope to tie his neck to control him, but Prem died in the process,” added the DCP.

The accused then took Prem’s body inside a box to Etawah and disposed it of in a riverbed.

Delhi Police recovered Prem’s body on Sunday, while Ajay was arrested on Saturday and taken into police custody.
