CCTV: AAP preparing a huge show of strength at public meeting

The AAP started its work to draw a huge gathering of people for the public meeting on the CCTV installation in Delhi. The government sources also said that no draft CCTV plan by the committee formed by the LG would be accepted at the Cabinet if presented. However, there have been reports that the officials are likely to present a draft note on the project on Tuesday at the Cabinet meeting. The public hearing will happen at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium on July 29.

Close to 50,000 people, including the representatives of RWAS and people, will come to this meeting. CM Arvind Kejriwal already held a meeting with the RWAS on Sunday. However, the issues discussed there were not on the CCTV but on the parks and others issues. However, a section of the party viewed the interaction as to get the faith of the RWAS.

Meanwhile, a six-member committee, constituted by Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal in May to oversee the CCTV project, has also prepared a draft of the policy. Last week, the committee extended the deadline to receive public feedback on its recommendations till July 30, on the request of the AAP government. The panel, in a set of rules, has proposed that Delhi Police's Deputy Commissioner for (Licensing) will be the "appropriate authority" on installation, operation and monitoring of CCTV cameras in public places, including in housing colonies, marketplaces and government offices among others. The rules are proposed to be notified under the Delhi Police Act, 1978.

Earlier, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had lashed out at the recommendations, saying it will only encourage "licence raj".
