Showers continue to lash Delhi-ncr

NEW DELHI: After a day of heavy showers across Delhi and its neighbouri­ng areas, residents of the Capital on Friday again woke up to light but persistent showers.

Meanwhile, in neighbouri­ng Ghaziabad district, schools were closed on account of heavy rains.

The maximum temperatur­e in Delhi settled at 28.7 degrees Celsius, six notches below normal, the India Meteorolog­ical Department (IMD) said, while the minimum temperatur­e was recorded at 26 degrees Celsius.

The Safdarjung observator­y – the recording of which is considered the official figure for the entire city – registered 45.8 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, while the Palam observator­y recorded 37.4 mm of precipitat­ion in the same period. Additional­ly, The humidity at 8.30 am was 98 percent.

Water-logging was reported in several parts of the city, leading to congestion on both arterial roads and service lanes.

Throughout the day, Delhi Traffic Police tweeted about all the bottleneck­s in the city to keep morning commuters abreast with the situation.

Heavy traffic was reported at Ghazipur Murga Mandi and Mayur Vihar Phase 2 route. The Mehrauli–badarpur Road, near Badarpur railway crossing, was also affected.

Keeping in view the weather forecast by the Metrologic­al department, Ghaziabad district magistrate Ritu Maheshwari had ordered closure of schools, on Thursday.

In Uttar Pradesh, moderate to heavy rainfall and thundersho­wers were reported from most places on Thursday.

According to the IMD, Orai witnessed 21 cm of rainfall, Agra and Mathura 15 cm each, Jalaun 14 cm, Agra 13 cm and Bareilly 11 cm.

Meanwhile, Haryana has been on alert since Friday after the water level in Hathnikund barrage in Yamuna Nagar district increased alarmingly.
