NEW DELHI: In a bid to decrease the traffic congestion at major parts of the city, the much-awaited project of Barapullah Phase 2 was inaugurated by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday. Commuters traveling from Sarai Kale Khan to AIIMS after the opening of phase-ii of the Barapullah elevated road on Saturday were likely to save 20 minutes of their travel time, the Delhi government's Public Works Department (PWD) says.

Construction on the 2-km stretch from Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium till INA Market was started in February 2013 and completed this month at an estimated cost of Rs 530 crore, the PWD said. After missing many deadlines, phase-ii of the road will extend the elevated corridor till Aurobindo Marg. The first phase of the elevated road had connected the 4-km stretch from Sarai Kale Khan to Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and was opened ahead of the Commonwealth Games in 2010.

“I want to thank all the officials and the people who worked hard day and night to finish this project,” said the CM. Slamming the BJP and Congress, he said that in Delhi the AAP has done more work than any other government in history.

“I promise you that in one year all the roads at the unauthorized colonies will be built properly. I have sanctioned the budget and the work has been started. The development of these areas is our priority,” the CM said.

He added that in the coming time many more development works will happen. “Our work in the education has been revolutionary and the whole world is praising us for this. Many people are taking their children to the government schools from the private schools.”

He also said that there was a time when people used to request him to admit their children to any private school but now the situation has changed.

Kejriwal said, “We have come out with a scheme where the Delhi government officers will come to your house. They will bring all the necessary equipment and there would be no need for you to go to the office and stand in the queue.”
