12 more cows die in Chawla gaushala, toll rises to 48

- ZAFAR ABBAS

NEW DELHI: Twelve more cows are reportedly dead in the Acharya Sushil gausadan in Chawla's Ghummenhera in Delhi. The total number of cows which died in the past one week is now 48.

Earlier, the police were informed that 36 cows have died in a span of 4-5 days. While the Gausadan blamed it on MCD that the carcass of the dead cows was not picked up on time, it seems that the rains amplified the problems leading to infection.

The police have already formed a team of veterinary doctors to conduct an inquiry in the incident and also conduct a postmortem.

“This comes under the Animal Husbandry Department and we have informed them. A team of six doctors was formed to conduct the enquiry and establish the cause behind death through a postmortem. Once their report is submitted, further legal action as in accordance with the prevalent laws if any made out will be taken,” said DCP Dwarka Anto Alphonse.

After the incident, the AAP government has already ordered probe into the incident. The Gaushala is being run by Acharya Sushil Gosadan Trust at village Ghumanhera, Chhawla. This gaushala is situated in approximately 20 acres of land and was allotted in the year 1995. Around 20 labourers are working in this gaushala. Only a probe will ascertain the cause of the death of such a large number of cows in a Guashala that has close to 1400 cows.
