NEW DELHI: Delhi Police averted the revenge killing of five men after they arrested four persons from Dwarka district on Saturday. The police claimed that one of the accused wanted to murder his two relatives as they allegedly grabbed his agricultural land and house which brought misery and poverty to his family. The another accused wanted to kill uncle and brothers of his ex-girlfriend who used to abuse him.

Police claimed that both the criminals needed money to purchase arms for which they made a plan and on July 25 robbed more than Rs two lakh from the cashier of an Indian Oil petrol pump at gunpoint with the help of two other accused. The entire act of crime was completed in one minute but their luck ran out as they were arrested near Najafgarh.

The accused were identified as Manjeetdagar (23), Praveen (22), Sooraj (34) and Sohan Lal (29). For the arrest, DCP (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse formed a joint operation team of police officials under the leadership of Inspector Raj Kumar and sub-inspector Naveen Kumar. “Manjeet Dagar believed that his father was given powder in a glass of liquor by his two (younger) uncles which led to his death

and then they grabbed his property so he planned to take revenge by killing both of them,” said DCP Alphonse adding that he had a country made pistol but wanted automatic pistols for murder for which he required money to purchase automatic pistols.

Another accused Praveen was in a relationship with a woman from his same village. When her family came to know about the relationship, they threatened him with dire consequences if he doesn't stop seeing her. “To avoid enmity and tension within neighbourhood he broke up with the girlfriend. But even then he used to be taunted and abused by the uncle and two brothers of the woman,” added the DCP.

He further claimed that on many occasions, they humiliated his family and even assaulted his father once. He was seething in revenge and planned to kill the uncle and both the brothers of the ex-girlfriend. He required money to purchase weapons and agreed to join the plan of his friend Manjeet Dagar to rob the cashier of the Indian Oil Petrol Pump. Sooraj was in debt of about Rs 3 lakh and wanted money so he joined the gang whereas his friend Sohan Lal had taken money on interest from many persons and they used to demand their money back. Lal was roped in for the robbery by other accused.
