SDMC Commissioner for prevention of mosquito breeding at work-place
NEW DELHI: SDMC Commissioner Puneet Kr Goel on Tuesday stressed on the need for prevention of mosquito breeding in offices, institutions and work places. He stated that there is no specific treatment or vaccine against these diseases. Prevention of Aedes mosquitoes breeding by source reduction is the only effective means for prevention and control of dengue and Chikungunya.
He further stated that the transmission of dengue has started in the capital city. He expressed his deep concern over the lukewarm response of the government agencies, offices and institutions in tak- ing measures against breakdown of vector-borne diseases.
Goel reiterated action for the prevention and control of vector-borne diseases as communicated in earlier advisories. He issued another missive to the administrative heads of all Government/autonomous offices/educational Institutions/commercial Concerns/ Market Associations/rwas to take action communicated vide earlier communications.
He further stated that the Central Cross Checking Teams of National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, National Institute of Malaria Research and SDMC have been reporting high Aedes mosquito breeding from various government offices, schools and certain residential colonies.
Goel has requested the Administrative heads and office bearers of market associations and RWAS to ensure that overhead/ other tanks/ containers are properly kept covered with lid, water tanks of cooler should be repainted and pads be changed, all coolers should be scrubbed, cleaned once a week and mopped dry before refilling.
One tablespoon of kerosene oil/ petrol should be put into those coolers that cannot be emptied, collection of stagnant water should not be allowed inside or around office premises, unused broken bottles, pots and tyres.
