Violent clashes lead police to hold interactio­n sessions with students

NEW DELHI: In the wake of armed scuffles between students in which a 17-year-old student died in North East Delhi’s Jyoti Nagar and another severely injured in Shahdara’s Krishna Nagar, the Delhi police have sent its men in uniform to schools to spend some time with the students. The purpose of the initiative is to build a sense of security among school students.

Policemen and lady officers on Monday were seen outside as well as inside the school premises interactin­g with students aiming to build confidence.

When the Millennium Post talked to Shahdara DCP Meghna Yadav, she was quick to add that the presence of police around the school and interactio­n is going to positively channelise the students’ energy instead of negative diversions.

This will also bring the children a bit closer to the law enforcemen­t agency. They will come out of their prejudices against the men in uniform. We are sure this will bring a positive change about the perception of the police force,” the officer said.

On being asked about the continuati­on of the interactio­n process, she stated, “Yes, we intend this procedure of intermingl­ing and interactio­n with students to continue. It is an ongoing process and we have done this in various forms. Delhi Police’s ‘YUVA’ scheme is the best example where we are directing the energy of students in a positive direction.”
