NEW DELHI: On Tuesday, Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik met ASI Lokesh who challenged armed robbers and foiled the robbery attempt in Preet Vihar despite being fired at by the assailants. The Delhi Police has also arrested the six Bangladeshis for attempt to murder at a policeman. The armed group of bandits fired shots at ASI Lokesh who challenged them while they were committing robbery at Preet Vihar in East Delhi.

The armed robbers were present at Preet Vihar in the intervening night of 26-27 July when someone reported to police about the suspicious movement of some people in the locality. The information was immediately passed to ASI Lokesh, who was patrolling in the area with DHG Satish.

ASI Lokesh along with DHG Satish rushed to the spot and found some miscreants trying to hide in a house. In the meantime, a PCR van had also reached the spot.

ASI Lokesh called them to surrender but they tried to run away. When ASI Lokesh caught hold of one person, the others indulged into a scuffle with the ASI for getting their associate released. In the melee, one of them had hit a pistol’s butt on the head of ASI Lokesh.

Blood started oozing from his head. On not managing to free their associate of the grasp of the ASI, one of the accused fired at ASI Lokesh, and the bullet hit him on his shoulder. Taking advantage of the bullet injury sustained by ASI Lokesh, the accused fled the spot.

“During the course of the investigation, the teams scanned the crime scene and probable entry and exit routes thoroughly. One of the teams succeeded in obtaining a bag belonging to the assailants from the jungle along the railway track which they had dropped while fleeing on being cross fired by the Police. The bag contained some vital clues,” DCP East Pankaj Singh. Immediately police teams were dispatched to different locations.

The police had identified one of the accused Ikram alias Maqbool near Kanpur Central Railway Station. Immediately he was overpowered and in this instance, two more accused Islam and Sohail were apprehended.

Building further leads of the gang, Appan and other coaccused Suttan and Haroon were arrested from Ghaziabad and Delhi. All of them are permanent residents of Bangladesh.
