Driver used ‘Smoking’ as green signal for robbery, arrested

NEW DELHI: The main conspirato­r of an armed robbery at Naraina in West Delhi turned out to be the driver of the businessma­n who passed on the informatio­n about money in the car to his associates.

The driver Shambu developed a code action and told his associates that he will be smoking cigarette outside the office if there is money in the car. This acted as a green signal for his associated on two bikes that its an ideal time to strike.

The incident of robbery happened on August 2 when a businessma­n Kailash Bansal, a resident of Rohini, was going to Gurugram along with his driver Shambhu in his car to deliver the cash Rs 70 lakh to his brother-in-law’s friend Saurab Bansal and Deepak Ghatana. He also collected cash Rs 28.50 lakh from one Prince from Punjab National Bank, Prashant Vihar in a pink colour bag. “At about 2.35 pm when they reached Naraina Flyover, three boys in their twenties came on a blue Pulsar motorcycle and stopped the car. One of them pointed a pistol to him while the other lifted the remote key and mobile phone from his car and also took out the bag containing cash Rs 70 lakh and fled away on the motorcycle,” said DCP West Vijay Kumar.

However, the other bag containing Rs 30 lakh was safe as it was lying behind the driver seats. Meanwhile, a passerby made a video of the live robbery in Naraina which helped police to identify the accused Monu Sharma who was later arrested by Delhi Police.

“Due to relentless efforts of the team, another accused JCL involved in the crime was apprehende­d on August 6 and Rs one lakh (case property) was recovered from his possession. During interrogat­ion, Rs 8 lakh was also recovered on his instance from his maternal uncle Jitender who has also been arrested and his car seized,” the officer said.
