COPS REGISTER SUO MOTU CASE AGAINST KANWARIAS

- ZAFAR ABBAS

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Wednesday registered a case against unknown kanwarias for wrongful restraint and damage to property in west Delhi’s Moti Nagar, after a video footage went viral showing a group of kanwarias going berserk and vandalising a car on Tuesday.

The footage, shot from a mobile, shows a group of kanwarias vandalising the car with sticks and batons and overturning it, after its driver allegedly brushed with one of the kanwarias on the way.

Police said that the inquiry revealed there was a heated exchange of words between the occupants of the car, a woman and a man, when the car brushed the kanwaria.

A kanwaria reportedly was trying to pass between the car and a cart when the car brushed him.

However, as there was a massive movement of kanwarias on the road, the car was stuck in traffic and was beleaguered by the kanwarias who were following the car.

Sources claimed that the woman came out of the car to confront the kanwaria and later allegedly slapped him. This is said to have infuriated the kanwarias and they roughed up the man in the car, forcing him and the woman to flee, before totalling the car within minutes.

Cops also said that a PCR call was received at 5.38 pm on Tuesday.

Even after the local police reached the spot at ten minutes later, they failed to find any gathering of kanwarias.

Sources said the occupants of the car are residents of Connaught Place, and the girl’s father is currently serving in Central Industrial Security Force.

“We have registered a case under section 341 and 427/34 of the IPC against the unknown kanwarias. We have collected CCTV footage from the area and are investigating. The occupants of the car fled the spot and later refused to give any complaint in writing, after which we registered the case taking suo motu cognisance,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vijay Kumar.

Cops further said that two witnesses have come forward in the case and have collected all available video clips and CCTV footage to identify and arrest the accused.
