NEW DELHI: Investigation into cases of fake jobs recruitment rackets, busted by the Crime Branch of Delhi Police, have revealed that the racketeers targetted three areas of West Bengal from where they duped as many as 17 youth for several lakhs of rupees.

According to the investigators, the two accused targetted the areas of Asansol, Bardhman and Bankura, where they duped the youth by offering them fake jobs in government department through touts.

The victims were charged around Rs two to five lakh each, investigators added.

“The places that the racketeers will target were preplanned,” added a Crime Branch official.

The STARS-II team of Crime Branch busted the gang and arrested the two accused, Ajeet Singh and Vimal Kumar, from Sansad Marg area.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Dr. Ajit Kumar Singla said they have cheated over 50 job aspirants across West Bengal and many north Indian states, including Jharkhand, Bihar and Delhi. All the victims belong to poor families. “They had prepared the list of places that were easy targets for them,” added the source.

On August 3, the fake racket came under the police radar when a complaint was received that Singh had cheated innocent people on the pretext of arranging jobs in Railways under the ‘Ministry Quota’.

Singh had cheated many people and charged money from them. He had also given fake letters to them upon receiving money, which were taken back, thereby leaving no evidence against him.

The team that made the arrest was led by Arvind Kumar, ACP, STARS-II (Crime). “Singh interviewed the candidates near various government offices and extorted money from innocent job seekers,” added Singla.

In 2012, Singh had come to Delhi in search of a government job, but was unable to get any. In 2017, he was arrested by Delhi Police in a fake job racket. After coming out on bail in December 2017, he started where he had left.
